Charity Caravan Highlights SCWA 12th Foundation Anniversary

Our 12^th SCWA Foundation Anniversary was highlighted with your acts of charity.

We thank you for your continued generosity.  The teachers and staff packed more than 400 “bags of joy” containing groceries and rice you donated.  More than 100 poor families at Purok Tinago and more 300 children (Muslim, Christian, IP) in a School at Brgy. San Jose received your gift of love. 

We also would like to thank various partners that complemented our 2012 Charity Caravan – Ideal Vision of General Santos City for the eyeglasses, Pediatrica for the vitamins and food supplements for the infants, LGU General Santos City through Kagawad Llido and Kagawad Lagare for feeding the children, JTF Gensan for Security and logistical support, YCSC and Tri-Youth Volunteers for cooking the food and preparing the venue.   

We thank SCWA management for giving additional sacks of rice.

Thank you Preschool for your gift of music during caroling that generated close to 9,000! Special thanks for individual parents who gave extra cash to augment the grocery items, ingredients for the feeding and for logistical expenses. Special mention to Mrs. Baac for selling ice cream in SCWA and giving all the proceeds to the Charity Caravan.

Thank you also for donating dried fruit trees seeds.  These will be donated to Hearts and Brains of Dr. Roel Cagape, an NGO helping various communities in their reforestation program in the mountains of SOCSARGEN.

More than P500,000 worth of groceries, items and services were given to our less fortunate brethren.

The money and items were just a "tool" for charity... for Charity is an ACT.  It's the act of loving, giving, packing the gifts, selling products for charity, cooking the food for the children, helping fit the eyeglasses, smiling, listening, sharing, caring with the community without expecting in return... and is priceless.

Dear Fellow Parents,

Shalom!

I am sending this communication to call for parents’ active participation and partnership with our chosen second home for our children – Shalom Crest Wizard Academy.

Below were PTA “traditional” projects and the school community usually asked for the PTA to engaged and fund. (based last year and the previous years)

We will be proposing minimum guidelines on accessing our funds.

1.       Written letter addressed to PTA for project funding.  Activity must be in line with the vision mission of the school.  If necessary, PTA will prioritized project that will cater to a majority, formation of our children, infra that complements to the convenience and security of the school community, or projects that will give greater impact specially for the parents and teachers.

2.       After the activity is completed, we will ask for a simple documentation of the project funded and to be submitted to PTA one week after the activity.

3.       We encouraged partnerships and counter parting.

We also encouraged VOLUNTERISM, CONVERGENCE, and NETWORKING for our future projects.  Parents are welcome to volunteer their special skills for the community (may it be in the fields of Business, MEDICAL, ICT, Values Formation, etc).  We also welcome if you have a place where special activity can be held such as recollections, retreats, teambuilding, etc.

1.       Suggestions and recommendations for the betterment of our school community.

2.       Any concerns that you want to elevate to us.  We will only officially entertain written concerns.

3.       Suggestion on how we can make our Family Day more meaningful.

4.       How to use our funds judiciously?

5.       Project you want that the PTA will engaged.

6.       Proposed activity for the Charity Caravan/Foundation Day.  The school asked the PTA to facilitate the activities.

PTA will initially support the following activities:

1.       October 5 – Teachers’ Day (in partnership with school administrators)

2.       October 8, 2012; 4:30 PM at the SCWA Basketball Court – 1^st Zumba Party, open for all students, parents and guardians. P50.00 tickets are available at the Business Office. Proceeds will help our athletes and performers for the upcoming PSBEA (Private School Basic Education Association) Meet on October 11-13, 2012.

We are also inviting all class representatives for a meeting on October 26, 2012;  5:30-6:30 PM, at the SCWA multi-purpose hall for presentation of PTA Annual Plan of activities with inclusion of the result of our “KAPIHAN”.  Please attend as an indication of our commitment to the class we are representing.

PTA Presidential Message
Induction of Officers, July 11, 2012, SCWA Hall

Shalom!

This word have been our favorite word in the workplace –  I am working with an NGO for Peace and Development…  Peace, Kapayapaan, Kalilintad… and I am happy to be with this peaceful community!

My membership with this PTA community started when, together with my son, passed by the school  saw and wanted to touch and play with the beautiful and colorful dinosaurs in the playground.

Going inside the school for the first time – was more than what I expected… It was home.  The “dinosaurs caretakers”  – teachers and administrators were so welcoming and child friendly… indeed this is a good place to incubate our young!

Our school has been very fortunate in having exceptional teachers and staff, who continually strive to create an ideal learning environment for each student.  Our PTA continually works to help support our school and parents, so that the needs of our students are best met.

PTA will then be partners of the school in giving a place conducive not only for academic excellence but a balance person… as what the school offers – TOTAL DEVELOPMENT.

Time have change…

From a one way communication of broadcasting (where all are passive listeners  –  to social networking… were immediate feedbacking  can be experienced – interactive, participative and you can get feedback immediately.

May this group of “Volunteers” parents bring out the voices that will bridge communication and harmony to the school.

Voices on how to use judiciously PTA funds…  Voices on the traffic situation of our school
Voices on this K-12 program… Voices on the spiritual nourishment of our children – retreat and recollection
Voices on how we conduct a happy and meaningful Family Day
Voices on how we will make our canteen more healthful friendly canteen
Voices on how we can complimentarily contribute to the community – may it be our surplus
resources, talent in sports, venue for seminars-teambuilding, recollection , retreat, etc;
Networking for various organization for community extensions, fund raising ideas, etc.

I know… or I guess, we all initially don’t want to be in this position… but somebody have to take charge…   Shall we say – this will be our personal community extension work for the good of not only our children… but all the children in this community.

I can see parents here in an office attire – it speaks  on how we prioritize things in life… Often times, lahat ay of the same level of priorities… but putting real value on these can help us decide where to go… we are here because we value our children – our family… we value education…

Let me share a to you a 30 second speech of the former CEO of Coca-cola – Bryan Dyson on Work, Family, Health and Spirit.

“Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them – Work, Family, Health, Friends and Spirit and you’re keeping all of these in the air.
You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls – Family, Health, Friends and Spirit – are made of glass. If you drop one of these; they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for it.
Work efficiently during office hours and leave on time. Give the required time to your family, friends and have proper rest. Value has a value only if its value is valued.”
So thanks you parents who are present here… you are a good-valued parents!

PTA meetings can serve as venues for discussions about a variety of educational issues. Teachers may talk to the parent community about a new reading program or student discipline issues. Experts from the community may talk about building better relationships with adolescents, or share important information about school reform initiatives. Parents may raise concerns about such things as homework or proposed changes in the school curriculum. The PTA can also provide a powerful mediating function, providing a neutral forum for resolving conflicts that sometimes occur in schools around controversial issues.

This will mean extra time from an ordinary parent… this will mean extra effort… just hold to our common vision - all for the good of our children!
